Guo Chinese Medical Center welcomes Veterans who have an approved VA Community Care referral or authorization for acupuncture. Our Ontario clinic can discuss scheduling after VA has approved the community provider and covered care.
How the VA Community Care process works
- Ask your VA health care team whether community acupuncture is appropriate and whether you are eligible.
- Request a referral to an in-network community provider. VA reviews eligibility and prepares the referral.
- Schedule after the referral is available, either through VA or directly as instructed.
- Keep the VA authorization letter. It identifies the authorization number, approved provider, covered care, authorization period, and visit limits.
- Track approved appointments and dates. VA states that services outside the authorization are not covered.

About acupuncture through VA
VA states that acupuncture may be included in the Veteran medical benefits package when clinically necessary as determined by the care team. Individual recommendations and responses vary.

Can I schedule before VA approves Community Care?
VA instructs Veterans to obtain a referral and approval before scheduling with a non-VA community provider, except in certain urgent or emergency situations.
Does an authorization cover every service or unlimited visits?
No. The authorization letter describes the covered care, provider, dates, and limits. Contact your VA team if additional care is needed.
Can I ask VA to use this clinic?
Veterans may ask their VA health care team about an in-network provider, but VA determines eligibility, network status, referral, and authorization.
